As part of Wellington Botanic Garden’s 150th celebrations, the garden is holding its first-ever Bioblitz.

We know a lot about the plants we grow, but what’s hiding in between the roots and stems? We would like help to uncover the secrets hidden in the gardens.

… so we're in a race to snapshot as many different species as we can in 24 hours. The event runs from 3pm Friday 5 April - 3pm Saturday 6 April.

Please would you share the event with your staff, students and their families. We’ve attached a pdf and jpeg for you to use.

As a super science sleuth, you'll be shown how to use the iNaturalist App, so you can make your own discoveries. If you like to work in a team, sign up to one of our guided walks.

Not sure what we mean by a Bioblitz? Check out this handy video.

The garden is also holding a special Brown Bag Lunch next Wednesday, 3 April between 12.30pm and 1.10pm. You may like to attend, so we can show you how you can use the i-naturalist App in the classroom and how you can capture (on camera of course...) species you find.

The Bioblitz has a special project page, so scientists from around New Zealand (and the world) can help identify what you have discovered during the Bioblitz.
