Playground Injuries

At our Board meeting last month, concerns were raised about the increased injury rate in the playground and the fact that the bark was no longer considered to be safe. The board assessed this and agreed that the school needs to upgrade the bark cover, back to a better standard. Decision was made to immediately assign necessary funds for this. The work will be completed by a contractor during the school holidays.

However, the board would like to point out that although it has taken action to mitigate any injury risks as best possible, analysis of the cases reported reveals that the injuries occurred mainly outside school hours and as a result of underage, lack of supervision or no supervision at all and in one case inappropriate use of the playground.

The board would like to remind all parents and children of their own responsibility in ensuring safe use of the play ground.

National Standards

The board would like to acknowledge the excellent work that our teachers and principal have done to progress the school towards implementation of the National Standards.

Although content and purpose of these standards continues to be debated, the board recognizes the intent of these standards and will ensure that our school complies with the new regulations as directed by the Ministry of Education.

The mid term report, you will be receiving on Friday, has been amended in anticipation of National Standards and in an endeavor to accommodate comments from the recent school survey. We hope you find the modifications helpful and Sue Ryan welcomes any comments you may have.
